| Frequently Asked Questions |
Who is behind this thing?
Just call me a Concerned Citizen. As the war in Iraq and the "War on Terror" have continued over the past 88 months we have become more polarized and fragmented. The dialog about these events has been controlled primarily by two different groups the government and the media, each of which would seemingly have us become Pavlovian dogs, reponding to fear instead of fact. I think it's time to have a rational discussion, person to person about these issues. |
What is a Baghdad Diary and where does it come from?
A Baghdad Diary is simply a blank journal. Each starts its journey as a stack of raw materials which are hand-bound into a diary by A Concerned Citizen. Each diary represents a member of the military who has lost their life in Iraq, and each carries a dedication to that person on the first page of the diary. |
How often do new Baghdad Diaries become available?
As the slots for the diaries that are currently available fill up, new diaires will be added to the list of diaries available. |
How can I contribute to a Baghdad Diary?
Create an account for yourself by clicking on "Register". When diaries become available, you can add yourself to the list of participants by using the "Sign-up" feature. |
How many Baghdad Diaries will there eventually be?
As of this morning, 4333 troops have been killed in action. So far 50 diaries have been bound. To bring the project to it's intended conclusion, 4283 additional diaries will have to be created. |
What's the deal with the covers, the artwork doesn't seem to have anything to do with war?
For most of us, the War on Terror isn't something we "live" it's something we "consume". The government and media present us with packages of information which we sandwich into our daily lives along with everything else. The covers are meant to act as a metaphor for that experience. |
You make these things? What are you using to make them?
The book block is constructed from 57 Lb. Wausau Exact Vellum Bristol and hand-sewn with 4-ply waxed Irish Linen. Covers are digitally designed using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator and then printed using an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 on 67 Lb. Wausau Exact Vellum Bristol. The cover is then applied to a case constructed from .067 Davey Board and all the parts are then assembled to create a diary. |
